 Shelley is a mixed-media artist living and working in Dawson City, Yukon. Canada.
Shelley’s works are difficult to classify. A varied composite of mediums…acrylics, silks, papers, metals, polymer clay, silk fibres and translucent glazes are united to communicate and tell a story. Her choice of materials continually evolves, incorporating different techniques from the limitless possibilities to relate the story. The mixed-media process leaves her free to explore and combine numerous disciplines, continually progressing into new territory.
Motivated by her love of history, legend and myth, research became an integral part of her creation process. Getting to know the era or person she is portraying is essential to her pieces. She tells her tales with colour, texture, glazes, partially concealing but also reflecting the obscure nature of history, legends and myths.
Shelley`s work offers visual interpretation at one level and mental imagery at another, with symbolism playing an important role in all her works. Hidden and shadowy things, mysterious subject matter and a wry sense of humour permeate her pieces.
